SXSW Kick-Off Party at Marquis Theater
The Photo Atlas built its dance-punk empire on taut rhythms and hip-shaking beats, but it’s singer Alan Andrews’ sputtering howl that sets the quartet apart from a sea of Rapture-styled duplicates. Its sound, as on 2009’s To Silently Provoke The Ghost, has long been known to pull more from Fugazi than The Faint. And, even with the departure a couple years back of drummer/founding member Devon Shirley, The Photo Atlas’ jittery rock hasn’t changed much since its formation in the early ’00s.
