Tech N9ne at Fillmore Auditorium
Kansas City’s Tech N9ne spent years bouncing around the underground and getting by with the help of better-known rappers like Tupac and RZA. His diligence has begun to pay off: 2008’s Killer won fans for Tech’s mix of machine-gun delivery, orchestra-hit hip-hop, and silky R&B backups—not to mention guest work from Ice Cube, Scarface, and Paul Wall. True to his roots, one of the two albums he dropped in 2009 was a side-project disc that teamed him with labelmates and other KC talent, and this summer he released The Gates Mixed Plate, named for a beloved Kansas City barbecue restaurant.
