Thomas Function, Yussuf Jerusalem, Ideal Fathers, Dan Kaufman Superstar Eruption, Holly Holy, The Great Actors, and Cutter Nuxon at Larimer Lounge
Alabama band Thomas Function offers up a bubblegum take on garage rock on the forthcoming In The Valley Of Sickness, coming on like 1910 Fruitgum Co. covering The Rolling Stones. Much of the band’s sticky sweetness comes courtesy of singer Josh Macero, who bleats like a snotty 14-year-old on Sickness' standout track, “Belly Of The Beast.” But as fun as the band is, it also seems a bit disposable. While Thomas Function doesn’t really alter the garage-rock template enough to stand out in an overcrowded scene, its drunk-ass, unfashionable, high-octane rock 'n’ roll always seems to have a home on the road.
