Tokyo Police Club, Freelance Whales, and Arkells at Bluebird Theater
When Tokyo Police Club released its EP A Lesson In Crime in 2006, the media couldn’t help but compare the group to its garage-rock revival forefathers The Strokes. And while the comparison is apt in capturing the band’s patterned basslines and bouncy tempos, TPC’s rowdy enthusiasm sets it apart from the pseudo-ennui of its commercial counterpart, with short bursts of song that tumble to unexpected endings usually no more than two minutes through. After releasing Elephant Shell on Saddle Creek in 2008, TPC gets back to its rowdy roots on the new Champ.
