Twin Sister, Ava Luna, and Young Pharaohs at Hi-Dive

Twin Sister’s ambient art-pop takes a while to kick in, but by the time the reverberating drums drop and vocalist Andrea Estella begins her woozy cooing, you’ll stop wondering, “Is it working?” On a pair of EPs—2008’s Vampires With The Dreaming Kids and 2010’s Color Your Life—Twin Sister paints in dreamy textures cribbed from forebears like Spiritualized and Brian Eno, its hypnotic arrangements rarely building toward anything louder than a dull roar. In late 2011, the band released its first full-length, In Heaven, on the heels of the quirky funk roller “Bad Street.”
