Tyrone Wells got his start as the singer for California Christian-rock band Skypark, but scored bigger success as a solo singer in the Coldplay vein, especially after he was picked up by major label Universal, which released both 2007's Hold On and this year's Remain. His earnest, emotional songwriting soon began showing up as background music in TV shows like Grey's Anatomy and One Tree Hill. Although appealingly produced and sincere, Wells' music also suffers from a pervasive, smooth blandness, like a musical yogurt—despite the epic feel that it reaches for, it's almost embarrassingly easy to tune it out, and forget about after it's over.
