Unite In Rock at Red Rocks Amphitheatre
Popular ’70s AOR band Styx always displayed an above-average sense of melody and dynamics: Tracks such as “Come Sail Away” and the high-school slow-dance classic “Lady” have become rightful classics. But vocalist Dennis DeYoung’s insistence on recording overblown concept albums like 1983’s Kilroy Was Here (featuring the excellent “Mr. Roboto”) led the band to splinter; only two members from the most popular lineup—Tommy Shaw and James “JY” Young—are touring. Styx’s most recent studio album, 2005’s Big Bang Theory, is an all-covers affair that tackles everyone from The Beatles to Jimi Hendrix to The Who.
