Wet Hair and Talk Normal at Rhinoceropolis
Through the cassette tape label/art house Night People, Shawn Reed and Ryan Garbes have managed to spearhead a substantial Midwest noise movement by giving artists in the area a place to play, stay, and release music. As Wet Hair, the Iowa City duo contributes its own mushy blend of spacey organs and temperamental snare drums that tangle with Xiu Xiu-esque vocal drones and synthesized blips and waves. This year’s Glass Fountain follows Wet Hair’s usual comprehensive aesthetic, from its goth-like vocal wanderings and meditative sludgy sequences to Reed’s silk-screened album cover art, creating the perfect holding pattern for happy and harsh noise.
