Zoë Keating at Soiled Dove Underground
Avant cellist Zoë Keating formerly served as a second-chair member of gothic cello rock band Rasputina. But on her own, Keating is able to create something far more compelling using only her stringed instrument and some looping software. Dragging her bow, plucking the strings, and banging on the body of the cello, Keating relays the signal via pedal to a busy computer screen where all the layers combine to form dense, moody compositions like “Escape Artist,” off her latest album, Into The Trees. Consistently topping the classical charts, Keating’s music surely incorporates many more electronic and rock influences than that of the majority of her classically trained peers.
