• Grey’s Anatomy is still on TV and, for Tennis fans, that’s a great thing. The Denver band made its prime-time première last week, with its track “Origins” appearing as the incidental music on the latest episode of the long-running medical drama. Achille Lauro does a fine job of summing up its new record on the track “Thing About Sauza,” with lyrics that proclaim: “There’s a word for this, and the word is nuts.” That hits the nail on the head.
This band cannot be easily labeled beyond the vague “indie rock,” and it’s better for that. The quartet blends genres with abandon to create some moments of head-scratching—one minute the sound is jazzy, then the next track has a little post-rock vibe, followed by some hip-hop influences, and so on. Despite all of these shifting genres, Flight Or ...

The James Beard Foundation’s annual gala is basically the Oscars of the food world. (We know this because Padma Lakshmi said so on an episode of Top Chef once.) The James Beard Award is of the type that’s so prestigious that it gets to preface its winners’ names for the entire remainders of their careers, which is sort of like how we all still have to say “Academy Award winner Mira Sorvino.”

On Saturday, Jan. 28, the Denver Nuggets were riding high. Kicking ass and taking names, they were running people out of the gym left and right. They spanked the reigning-champion Mavericks, whipped the mighty Heat like it was nothing, and had just won their sixth straight, slapping down punks aplenty on a lengthy road trip. Since then, though, Denver has lost 10 of its last 13, with the Nuggets abruptly finding themselves stuck out in the cold, looking in on the playoffs.
Some of the losses were exasperating wastes of time, kind of like sitting through a bad slasher film ...

Last year, Bridesmaids was touted as the harbinger of a new era for women in film. ... But, then again, back in 2002, so was Bend It Like Beckham. And before that, the female-empowerment vehicle du jour was Thelma & Louise. The sad truth, though, is this: Even in 2011, only 5 percent of the 250 top-grossing films of the year were helmed by female directors. In a little corner of Aurora, on a mysterious menu, is one of the cutest and rarest dishes in all of the Denver area: The sesame pocket at Tao Tao Noodle Bar (10400 E. 6th Ave., Aurora; 303-366-1761).
Even though they’re people pleasers, these sesame pockets are hard to find. The little, sandwich-like treats are so very American-palate-friendly that their absence on American-Chinese menus is downright inexplicable. Perhaps this is one that restaurant proprietors have tried to keep for themselves.
It’s easy to see why: These handheld snacks are so munchable, so perfect in flavor and texture ...

Many music fans think of Young The Giant as an overnight sensation: A few months after its debut album hit stores, the band scored a massive radio hit with “My Body.” That impression couldn’t be further from the truth: While a recent name change—the act originally called itself The Jakes—clouds some of its history, the band’s been in the trenches in one form or another since 2004, when its members were high school students. The A.V. It’s been weeks since the specter of Tebowmania has reared its head here, but today brings us a reminder that everyone’s favorite Jesus-loving quarterback is still a thing. That reminder comes in the form of the Tebow reading a passage from his favorite book. Not the Bible, which is presumably now his favorite book, but rather his favorite childhood book, the Dr. Seuss classic Green Eggs And Ham. Over the past decade or so, Iron Maiden’s tendency to plan concept tours around its back catalog has certified the band’s vitality as heavy metal’s hardest-working tour act.
