How often have you heard “Drink it or dump it!” screamed at you as you try to leave a club and stroll onward, drink in hand? We’ve heard it plenty. It’s always been said or implied that leaving a bar with your drink is against the law.

Well, it turns out that it’s not in many cases (just ask if the establishment has “carry out” on its license, Indiana State Excise Police Officer Travis Thickstun tells us). It seems we all may have been the victim of a scheme seemingly perpetuated by bar personnel to make us stay and spend more. Or something like that. Regardless, let it be screamed from the rooftops from Broad Ripple to Mass Ave.: Drink it and hoof it, bar patrons. Be singular bar-bound no more! Demand to saunter freely as you sip your spirits! Traipse as you tipple. Just don’t litter; that’s rude.
