First of all, don’t panic. But also, don’t be a loser. No one can be empty-handed on Valentine’s Day and expect to remain someone’s Valentine, and a card just isn’t going to cut it (but a card is still necessary).

It’s possible that luck will be on the side of procrastinators who still need a place to have dinner. Maybe. As of this morning, there were still 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. reservations available for White Castle’s Valentine’s Day event, which includes tablecloths, flowers, a special dessert—cheesecake on a stick—and table service. To partake in all of the Harold & Kumarian glory, call 317-269-4590.

Other restaurants sometimes hold a couple of spots open for people who just show up—but don’t count on it. When attempting this, go either early or late, and please, save everyone some embarrassment and don’t try that sly handshake-slip-money-in-the-hand-of-the-host deal. That is even getting annoying to watch on TV.

Those without gainful employment who have time but not a lot of money could make their loves a mix-tape—but take our advice and do not use these songs on it!

Another thing to not do is present your junk in a box like Andy Samberg and Justin Timberlake did in that video a few years ago. It’s still funny to watch and, although it may seem it’s been long enough for that joke to work on actual Valentine’s Day ... would you want one?

Oh, and please, no speeches on how Valentine’s Day was created by greeting card companies and should be boycotted to avoid supporting corporate greed. Today isn’t the one for such stances. Buy a card, flowers, candy, a massage gift certificate, whatever and spread the love (or you won’t be getting any).
