Sharon Van Etten announces new album, tour dates
More Just Announced
Brooklyn singer-songwriter Sharon Van Etten—whom you may remember from her ketamined-up version of Fine Young Cannibals’ “She Drives Me Crazy” for A.V. Undercover—will release a new album, Tramp, and launch a supporting tour in February.
Tramp will be Van Etten’s third record, following up 2010’s Epic, which we liked very much. Tramp will be released on February 7 on Jagjaguwar and, according to the release, the album was recorded on and off over 14 months at Jagjaguwar’s coveted That Dude From The National’s Garage Studio. Said “Dude From The National,” Aaron Dessner, also contributes to a track to Tramp, as do a bunch of other indie types—The Walkmen’s Matt Barrick, Beirut’s Zach Condon, Wye Oak’s Jenn Wasner, and a few more. That’s not exactly the most upbeat crew in the world, no, but all of those musicians are certainly better described by “rock” than by “ketamine.” Given that, and given how Van Etten’s prior two albums are points describing a slope from folk to folk-rock, we’d guess that Tramp will continue edging closer to “rock.”
Etten will perform in Bloomington at Rhino's on April 1 with fellow Philly native The War On Drugs, presumably on the trek back from the West Coast dates to their hometown. Save the best for last, as they say.
