Art Brut's Eddie Argos joins the French Resistance right now (and May 5 at The Frequency)
More Just Announced
Turns out that when Eddie Argos isn’t kicking out bratty punk with his band Art Brut, he’s doing pretty much the same thing with his side project, Everybody Was In The French Resistance… Now! Even though EWITFR… N! is much heavier on syllables and ’60s girl-group style pop than his day job, Argos’ dry, ironic vocals remain intact, and he’ll hit the crowd with perfect pronunciation when the group plays The Frequency on Wednesday, May 5. Along with Dyan Valdes of L.A.’s The Blood Arm, the duo will be touring behind the recently released Fixin’ The Charts, Volume 1, a concept album featuring 12 songs written in response to specific, more famous songs. “G.I.R.L.F.R.E.N. (You Know I've Got A)” is directed towards Avril Lavigne's “Girlfriend,” “Hey It's Jimmy Mack” is a shout-out at Martha And The Vandellas “Jimmy Mack,” and “Billy's Genes” is the answer to Michael Jackson's “Billie Jean.” Concept albums can often trigger gag reflexes, but The A.V. Club has to admit this one sounds pretty cool.
