A.V. Club's guide to Wisconsin's culinary Twitterverse

Some locals are actually well worth following on the trendy attention-span mangler known as Twitter, especially when they find helpful angles on our state's obsession with food. If you are thoroughly tired of hearing the word “tweet,” Decider can help: The exasperating medium comes sharply into focus when your follow list is trained on these local food and dining experts.

Cheese
Cheese is serious business in Wisconsin, and Twitter reflects that. @MidwestDairy offers insider information on types of cheese, dairy-centric events, and online resources. @CheeseCupid focuses on cheese and beer pairings in tweets highlighting, say, the sublime combination of Anchor Bock and smoky gouda.

Recommended: @WisCheese has plenty of good advice on farmer's markets, where to sample cheese locally, how to determine if cheese has gone bad, and, of course, arguments for the superiority of Wisconsin cheeses over all others.

Beer
@bblodge emits a steady stream of high-quality industry news items, taste test results, and enkel, dubbel, and tripel recommendations. @blatzliquor is about as far from a corporate account as you can get—whoever's behind it is always planning parties (and you’re invited). Milwaukee’s @BeerWhore is consistently entertaining, alternating comments on suds with amusing late-night tweets about drunken hookups.

Recommended: @MadisonBeer is the Twitterverse avatar of the Madison Beer Review blog, "thinking about beer in 140 characters or less." The emphasis here is on beer-tasting events, microbrewery news, and local tweet-ups.

Restaurants
The folks at @madisonatoz are eating their way through every restaurant in Madison in alphabetical order; their Twitter feed supplements the locally famous blog. This same tactic doesn’t work for @EatDrinkMadison—the feed comes off as mostly content-free and rather spammy. @milwaukeefoodie is the go-to source for anyone looking to dine out in Milwaukee.

Recommended: @77square, @isthmustdp (don't forget its offshoot @fringefoods) provide an excellent cross-section of local food-related content.

Recipes
@WIcristie is all about potato pancakes, grilled cheese sammies, Cornish pasties, and other Wisconsin-related recipes. @eatwisconsin is just plain obsessed with food, relaying sauerbraten minutiae and morel pricing.

Recommended: @madisonfoodie has an extremely high signal-to-noise ratio, and offers innovative recipes along with farmer’s market events and inspiring descriptions of their cooking adventures.

Sustainable gardening and local foods
@SamanthaDickman, from Madison’s “green building” industry, mixes facts, news, and events related to sustainability efforts in the area. @CobraHead posts useful links interspersed with the saga of her own garden. @HickoryHBison is concerned with the ins and outs of raising bison for local food provision.

Recommended: @melsgreengarden is a fascinating look into the mind of a Madison resident who mows his indoor lawn.
