Belly Up: Crawl locally, eat locally

Fatsometer

While the title of “Local-motion: An Eat Local Crawl” questions both poetry and ready parsing, the event is noteworthy as part of a larger cultural swell. On Sept. 12, Yahara River Grocery Cooperative is sponsoring this new foodie shindig as part of its Eat Local Challenge, which aims to re-imagine bloated food crawls like the Taste Of Madison as a testament to local and organic food. Grassroots, locally grown food-centric events like these are blooming like a field of mushrooms, and this is fist-pumping feel-good news when viewed as a bottom-up response to the insidious big money food takeover by people who think injecting high-fructose corn syrup into nearly everything is a great idea. Ten little guys will attempt to do their part: All Through the House, Bella Roma, Cheeser's, Fosdal's, Main Street Kitchen, Main Street Pour House, Montage, Page Street Pizza, Sonny's, and Yahara River Grocery Cooperative. The event is free, and dishes will be a wallet-friendly $2-$5 apiece.

Fatsometer: 3. This is pretty healthy stuff, but even at a local foods/organic event we are still in Wisconsin, Toto. There will be cheese.
