When you have a chance put positive vibes out into the universe, you should take advantage—especially if pizza, coffee, beer, and gelato are involved. On Friday, Aug. 7, from 6 to 9 p.m., Just Coffee’s Producer2Producer fundraiser offers a rare opportunity to stimulate some good karma and your taste buds at the same time. The fair-trade coffee roaster is opening up its East Wilson Street headquarters for three hours of good food, fresh coffee, and all kinds of family-friendly fun. Your contributions will help Just Coffee raise money to send a member of La FEM, an all-woman coffee co-op in Nicaragua that provides women with economic empowerment, to visit another coffee co-op in Central America to learn best practices. In return, you can nosh on Roman Candle pizza, dig into coffee-infused gelato from Java Cat, try Furthermore Brewery’s rich Oscura beer (made with La FEM-produced coffee), and participate in a coffee tasting to vote for “Madison’s Favorite Just Coffee.” While you indulge, you can also get your bike tuned up by Revolution Cycles, bid on the silent auction, and enjoy some music provided by Corey Hart and Jonathan Zarov.
Fatsometer: 7. A double-whammy of altruism and local tastes is sure to perk you up—and preemptively make up for whatever trouble you’ll get into over the weekend.
