Ben Folds at Overture Center
It’s a good time to be Ben Folds, who has traded in his dorky, indie-darling status for an even dorkier bit of mainstream recognition. His 2009 compilation, Ben Folds Presents: University A Cappella!, a collection of his songs covered by college vocal groups, neatly coincided with the Glee-assisted resurgence of the style. He’s now touted as an expert in the field, judging a cappella groups on NBC’s The Sing-Off, whose second season premières tonight. But the man hasn’t completely abandoned his longtime fans: He still tours a fair amount, and his most recent show announcement has him hitting the Overture Center on Jan. 27, presumably with his beloved, battered piano in tow. Tickets are $36.50 and go on sale Dec. 10.
