Bonnaroo College Comedy Tour to bring Kumail Nanjiani and others to Union on April 16
More Just Announced
In addition to their efforts to hoard up exorbitant amounts of music, big festivals have also been dipping into stand-up comedy. Bonnaroo, for example, has snagged the likes of Conan O'Brien and Aziz Ansari for its comedy tent this year. For those of us who can't drive out to freakin' Tennessee, Bonnaroo has also been nice enough to send out comics Kumail Nanjiani, Amy Schumer, and Pete Holmes on a college tour that comes to the Memorial Union's Great Hall on April 16. Nanjiani particularly makes this show an interesting one: Born in Pakistan, he came up in Chicago's comedy scene before moving to New York City, continuing to do a ridiculous amount of work that includes stand-up and writing and performing for the since-cancelled Comedy Central show Michael And Michael Have Issues with Michael Ian Black and Michael Showalter. He also spoke with us a few years ago about Unpronounceable, his one-man show about his upbringing in Pakistan. His quick, deadpan stand-up sets generally leave behind the Muslim-inspired material in favor of more approachable bits on his new kitty and movies that scare the crap out of him.
