Music Notes Concerts On The Square returns with film noir music, ABBA tributes

flickr.com/sugarwawa You're getting closer to where the concerts are.

Our music scene is a busy place with lots happening. If you don’t obsessively visit the local blogs, alt-weeklies, and other outlets, you could miss something important! That’s okay—we’re here to help with a weekly roundup of some of the more enticing news happening around town.

• Capitol Square is going to get busy with non-protest-related activities like the recently announced 2010-2011 season of Concerts On The Square. Highlights this year include Film Noir Classics (July 13), an ABBA tribute band (July 20), and maybe seeing your parents drink too much wine.

Little Red Wolf announced on its Facebook page that it’s asking fans to submit designs for the official LRW logo. The band says the design “doesn’t have to be fancy, just awesome,” and it’s accepting jpeg images via e-mail at lrw.band@gmail.com. The winner gets free stickers, a copy of the band’s new album, free tickets to LRW shows, and the chance to see his or her artwork grace road signs, newspaper machines, and public bathrooms all over the city.

E-Sweez, winner of last year’s Get Your Buzz Up event in Madison, is almost finished with his upcoming album, Life Is Precious. But first comes the video for the single “Hip-Hop Head.”

• Madison dub-pop power duo Indra Dunis and Aaron Coyes (Peaking Lights) have a couple of mix-tapes wandering the Internet. Dunis’ eclectic mix for Gorilla Vs. Bear is perfect for “party prep,” “morning coffee,” or a “chillin session.” The A.V. Club can confirm that it does indeed work well for all of those things. Coyes (a.k.a. Record Jammer Slayron) kept his mix a bit more focused, slapping together a whopping two hours of gospel. Don’t be turned off by that word, gospel: It’s really good.

• Finally, Middleton’s All Tiny Creatures, on the heels of releasing the excellent Harbors, picked up a spot on the lineup for this year’s Hopscotch Music Festival, running Sept. 8-10 in Raleigh, North Carolina. Local fans can catch the band before that though, on April 30 at the Project Lodge.
