Decemberists to return to Madison

decemberists

The Decemberists sure bite off a lot in their ambitious, ornately wordy songs, and they've been known to follow through with equally grandiose live sets. (I once saw frontman Colin Meloy direct a crowd through a Lord Of The Rings-style epic battle at a show in Chicago, if that makes any sense.) On their current tour, they're performing two sets each night: The first is a full performance of their recent album The Hazards Of Love, the next a set of older tunes. Should make for a fun night when they roll into the Orpheum Theatre on August 5. According to a press release, the tour will also include guest vocals from My Brightest Diamond's Shara Worden (who's no stranger to theatrical live sets) and Lavender Diamond's Becky Stark. To open things up, they'll bring along Ohio rockers Heartless Bastards, who played a great show in Madison last fall. The Decemberists' last show at the Orpheum, in April 2006, sold out, so consider yourself warned this time around.
