Don't you (forget about Lakeside Cinema this summer)
The A.V. Club vividly remembers how bad high school sucked. If we had spent our four years atop the social hierarchy, we’d probably be called The Sports Club instead. But that doesn’t cause any animosity toward high school movies, which is the theme of this summer’s Lakeside Cinema series at the Memorial Union Terrace. Starting May 31 with the indelible John Hughes masterpiece The Breakfast Club and finishing up Aug. 23 with another indelible John Hughes masterpiece, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, the film series should make Mondays a lot more social (demented and sad, but social). The lineup is filled out with more '80s treasures (Back To The Future on Aug. 2, Fast Times At Ridgemont High on July 26) and a few iffy additions (A Goofy Movie on July 5, Remember The Titans on June 21), a variety that expertly reflects the hodge-podge found at the bottom of many a locker. We can’t wait to hear Michael Cera’s voice echoing “man-dick” loud and clear across Lake Mendota (Superbad on Aug. 16), but we are just a tiny bit sad that Election or Rushmore didn’t make the schedule.
