HOLIDAY SALE AT THE ONION STORE

Fleck, Folds, Fiery Furnaces flock fortuitously to Madison

We don't have to tell you that BoDeans are doing yet another December show at the Barrymore Theatre this year—just about every Wisconsinite figures that out through osmosis—but as usual, each holiday season brings along many other strange bedfollows jockeying to lift our collective yule log. This time around, we've also got jazz-bluegrass-fusion masters Bela Fleck And The Flecktones out behind a holiday album, 2008's Jingle All The Way. Bringing extra unusual cheer to the season, the Flecktones' Dec. 13 show at the Orpheum Theatre will incorporate the Tuvan-style throat-singing of collaborators Alash Ensemble. Earlier in the best time of year for family get-togethers and puzzling variety-feasts comes the unpredictable brother-sister duo the Fiery Furnaces' Nov. 13 show at the Majestic Theatre. Also, in case you missed it in last Wednesday's Just Announced column, piano-popster Ben Folds has announced an Oct. 30 show at Overture Hall. In addition, even though Mason Jennings thoughtlessly failed to incorporate an "F" into his name for our alliterative enjoyment, we should note that he's playing the Majestic on Nov. 21.
