Belly Up Goodwill eating at The Big Eat

Fatsometer

A meal consisting of fontina cheese, dry Riesling, chicken tacos, masala-dusted beans, New Orleans-style shrimp with dirty rice, and loads of ice cream and chocolate might sound indulgent beyond selfishness. What if all that eating could be explained with that one magical phrase: “for a good cause”? The Big Eat fundraiser, held Monday, February 22 at Monona Terrace at 5:30 p.m., raises proceeds for The Family Centers of Dane County. Local culinary luminaries contributing include (deep breath): Carr Valley Cheese (2831 Parmenter St., 608-824-2277), Chocolate Shoppe Ice Cream (468 State St., 608-255-5454), Gail Ambrosius Chocolatier (2086 Atwood Ave., 608-249-3500), Dobra Tea (449 State St., 608-258-0488), Fromagination (12 S. Carroll St., 608-255-2430), Liliana’s Restaurant (2951 Triverton Pike Dr., 608-442-4444), La Mestiza (6644 Odana Rd., 608-826-0178, Marigold Kitchen (118 S. Pinckney St., 608-661-5559) Taj Indian Restaurant (1256 S. Park St., 608-268-0772), Cancun Mexican Restaurant (704 S. Whitney Way, 608-277-0992), and others. But wait, there's more! The Tony Castañeda Latin Jazz Band will play, and attendees can soft-shoe around the proceedings in the ballroom dance contest. Make your plans early as tickets are $50, and must be purchased in advance.
