Mothers' Day brunch is always a bit of a conundrum. What could be good enough for dear old mom? Well, there isn't much question that the brunch at Restaurant Magnus (120 East Wilson St., 608-258-8787) will be up to snuff. At $25 for adults, $15 for children 12 and under, and free children under 5, Gravlax deviled eggs with mixed greens salad, cold buttermilk soup with oat cakes and fruit preserves, goat cheese tart with berries and nuts, and smoked salmon on English muffin with cucumber and egg salad sounds pretty good. But that’s just for starters: For the second course, choose from pumpernickel French toast with bacon and whipped cream, Swedish pancakes with bacon and fruit, Scandinavian sausage and egg gratin, a Swedish meatball and fried egg sandwich, crispy pork belly with poached eggs and potato hash, wild mushroom crepes, or eggs Benedict with spinach and créme fraîche. Bag the flowers; this meal says it all. Call ahead for reservations to be there on May 9th, 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
FATSOMETER: 8. A meal that starts with a basket of pastries and goes on through multiple courses is only low in fat if you don't eat any of it.
