Help the Webster Street fire victims and have fun doing it

The June 30 blaze along North Webster Street displaced 27 residents of Capitol Hill Apartments, and though Madison Police have not released an official cost of the damages suffered, it suffices to speak in unquantifiable terms of the damages: People lost everything they owned. In response to this, the community is doing some awfully swell things to help support the victims. Here’s a list of upcoming benefits, fundraisers, and options for donating.

Benefit performance at Thorps, July 9, 8 p.m.
Not a terrible turn of events for Madison’s music fans: Thomas Wincek of All Tiny Creatures and The Weather Duo will be performing at Thorps Hair Salon (1988 Atwood Ave., 608-467-2222) Saturday night. You do not need to pay for the show, but you should obviously fork over some green for the cause. Art & Sons also designed screen-printed T-shirts unique to the occasion that will be available as well. If you cannot make the show, donations are being accepted through WePay.

Thrift sale at the Project Lodge, July 9-10, 9 a.m.-7 p.m.
Drop off your donations for the sale at the Project Lodge today from noon to 8 pm. So far, the Project Lodge has accrued local artwork, various men’s and woman’s clothing items, housewares, furniture, even a chandelier—but no candelabras or phonographs yet. An undoubtedly delectable, homemade spread will also be available, so food and drink donations are encouraged.

Benefit performance at High Noon Saloon, July 29, 9 p.m
More information will be surfacing in the near future, but Land Of Vandals and German Art Students have already been slated. With a couple weeks left to pull together an extensively sick set of local acts, the $10 suggested donation is likely to look like pittance.

Milwaukee benefit at Roots Restaurant, July 31, 8 p.m.
Tell your Milwaukee friends—or tell yourself—to hit up Roots Restaurant And Cellar for a sausage and barbeque fest, a Madison vs. Milwaukee bartender competition, barrels of beer, DJs, and good karma.

Not too many details are available yet for the the walking tour and benefit performances at Project Lodge (July 16-17) and benefit performance at East Side Club (July 30), but stay tuned and we’ll let you know when we know more. And, of course, if you cannot make any of these events, donations can also be submitted online here: http://www.websterstreetfire.info/.
