In case you missed it: Clyde Stubblefield was on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon Tuesday
In case you missed it, Madison’s resident and most awesome guy on the planet Clyde Stubblefield, who still holds down Funky Mondays at The Frequency, appeared on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon last night as part of the Copyright Criminals All-star Band, along with Chuck D and Eclectic Method, to perform Public Enemy’s stone-cold classic (and “Funky Drummer”-sampling) “Fight The Power.” Black Thought was there to rock the clock and fill in for hype man Flavor Flav, and Stubblefield knocked out the beat along with ?uestlove to celebrate the newly released Copyright Criminals: The Funky Drummer Edition documentary on DVD.
Beside the obvious awkward highlight of hearing Chuck D rap “Elvis was a hero to most / but he never meant shit to me,” followed by Thought adding “Motherfuck him and John Wayne” right after previous guest Jerry Weintraub’s story about putting up $1 million to take Elvis Presley on tour, it’s fantastic to see Stubblefield tear it up. Watch the performance (all the way at the end of the show), and check out the trailer for Copyright Criminals below.
