With the recent strawberry spring presaging the onset of a real thaw ahead, and the heartwarming displays of solidarity emanating from the Capitol with tremendous verve, thoughts are on unfreezing hearts and hills, and upcoming summer festivities. The Cajun Food, Film & Music bash on Feb. 26 (5:30-10:30 p.m.) is a warm-up for the Franco-centric La Fête de Marquette summer festival and a fund-raiser for the Wil-Mar Center (953 Jenifer Street, 608-628-2793). Madison residents probably wouldn’t complain if La Fête de Marquette were held once a month, so this apéritif is welcome. The food will be provided by Cajun familiars Liliana’s (2951 Triverton Pike, Fitchburg, 608-442-4444), Louisianne’s Etc. (7464 Hubbard Ave., Middleton, 608-831-1929), Bon Appetit Café (805 Williamson St., 608-283-4266), The Bayou Restaurant (117 S. Butler St., 608-294-9404), and New Orleans Take-Out (1920 Fordem Ave., 608-241-6655). Short films from the Lafayette, Louisiana-based Acadiana Film Festival, music from the Cajun Strangers, and (of course) beer provided by Star Liquor (1209 Williamson St., 608-255-8041) will add to the fun. Tickets are $15 for adults, $3 for children under 12, and seating is limited, so securing reservations by calling Gary Kallas at 608-257-4576 is advised.
FATSOMETER: 8. Cajun cuisine is heavy on butter and fat, which is why it tastes so good and makes the gut rotund.
