Let the mourning cease! LuLu’s is reborn as Nile Restaurant
Madison’s aficionadi of Middle Eastern cuisine sent up a collective wail worthy of a Hidaad, or mourning over the death of a loved one, when LuLu’s Deli & Restaurant closed its decades-old location at 2524 University Ave.
After a tense period of waiting, and more wailing whenever thoughts of the no-longer-obtainable hummus and shawarma crept into the mind unbidden, LuLu’s cook Mohammad Hinnawi surprised the faithful with today’s announcement. The reborn eatery is called Nile Restaurant and is up and running today at 6119 Odana Rd. Hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
The change of name hints at increased attention to Egyptian fare, but Hinnawi’s e-mail to The A.V. Club suggests it’s pretty much the old LuLu’s crew. Madison, end the sobbing and rejoice.
