Hearing the same Christmas carol for the millionth time might be cooler if it were being played on singing saws. Thanks to Julian Koster, leader of
The Music Tapes and contributor to such other Elephant 6 bands as Neutral Milk Hotel and Olivia Tremor Control, select Madison households can experience just that on Thanksgiving Day (Thursday, Nov. 27). Koster is touring behind
The Singing Saw At Christmastime, which reworks 12 Christmas standards as musical-saw instrumentals. But instead of hitting clubs, Koster and friends are actually caroling from house to house on each tour stop. The catch is, they have to be invited. According to a press release:
"Households that would like to invite Julian and his friends to come carol may do so up until the night before the carolers arrive in your town by sending an invitation to
musictapescaroling@gmail.com or by mailing a written invitation to:
"Music Tapes Caroling
c/o G. Stewart
175 Talmadge Street, Apt. 1

"Written invitations will be given priority, as well as invitations where the invitees indicate that they would be willing to entertain outside guests on caroling night. Once the limit on houses on a given night has been reached, the addresses of each of the houses that will welcome guests will be distributed via email to all others who wish to attend. The addresses of the houses will not be posted online."
