Madisonian Marla Hansen brings home more Sufjan-related stuff on Oct. 30
Marla Hansen
More Just Announced
Madison-raised violist and songwriter Marla Hansen has been awfully busy for the last few years. Since Hansen graudated from the University of Wisconsin and moved to Brooklyn to work on Sufjan Stevens’ Illinoise (with her string quartet Osso), she has toured with Stevens himself, Jens Lekman, and My Brightest Diamond; she's done loads of session work; and even backed up Kanye West on Saturday Night Live. The A.V. Club still wonders where Hansen found the time to tour behind her lushly charming solo EP Wedding Day in 2007. Hansen recently informed us that she and Osso will stop at the Project Lodge on Friday, Oct. 30 to perform selections from Run Rabbit Run, the group's all-strings interpretation of Stevens’ electronica opus Enjoy Your Rabbit. The evening will also include a showing of The BQE, Stevens' recent short historical film about the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway—with some live accompaniment from Osso, we hope. While the ambition of Run Rabbit Run may get overshadowed by the impatience of cranky Stevens enthusiasts who are still waiting for a new proper album, we highly recommend cooling your rage with Osso’s delightfully odd orchestrations (and an opening set from their Asthmatic Kitty labelmates DM Stith) later this month. At the very least, it'll be a nice chaser to Stevens' terrific show at the Majestic Theatre last month.
