MAMAs ceremony performers announced
Lucha Libre
Despite Decider's complaints about the Madison Area Music Awards themselves, we've got to give the MAMAs' organizers credit for incorporating a variety of local music into their annual awards show. They've announced the artists who'll be playing this year's ceremony May 9 at the Barrymore Theatre, and the lineup definitely takes in a good range of genres. At the top of the bill are local reggae vets Natty Nation and rootsy rockers Blueheels. Beyond that, there's Jentri Colello, a singer-songwriter whose stuff has really stood out nicely over the past year; the rap-and-reggaeton hybrids of Lucha Libre; local rockers Whore Du Jour; and the Celtic-flavored pop of Rising Gael. Funky drummer Clyde Stubblefield and band are also slated to play. All will play club shows around town after the ceremony, except for Jazz West, a band of Madison West High School students. As expected, it isn't big on the weirder acts distinguishing themselves in Madison these days, but it's a broad-minded mix nonetheless.
