Margaret Cho at the Overture Center
Ranging from the brilliantly satirical (Hard ’N Phirm) to the excruciating (Dr. Demento), the success of comedy music acts hinges a lot on the material and musical talent falling into sync. Hopefully Margaret Cho will find the right balance on her forthcoming musical comedy album, Cho Dependent, which she'll bring to the Capitol Theater on Oct. 14. But with contributions from Grant Lee Phillips and Jon Brion on the album, she already has a big leg up on anything Dane Cook ever shit out. As part of the tour, Cho will be combining the musical jokes with regular ones, like bits on the perils of a “heavy-ass period” and how she would fuck Sarah Palin. In the stand-up especially, expect the kind of crude but relevant fare that bears Cho’s signature politicized raunch. Tickets start at $37 and go on sale this June 5.
