Belly Up Moo-ve your dairy-ere

We live in America's Dairyland, but don't get the opportunity to mix it up with live cows and baby calves often enough. The annual high-concept event Cows on the Concourse (Saturday, June 5, 8 a.m.-1 p.m.) brings bovines to Madison's Capitol Square to kick off June Dairy Month with fresh dairy and some hands-on human-cow interaction. The idea is to get people excited about cows and the delectable dairy they produce, and to that end the Dane County Dairy Promotion Committee will showcase "ice-cold" low-fat and fat-free milk from Dean Foods and Swiss Valley Farms, fresh-grilled Weyauwega cheese sandwiches for only a buck fifty, and cream puffs. After chowing down, visitors can chew the cud with Wisconsin dairy farmers, who will take questions and expound on their philosophies (no doubt stressing the importance of buying your dairy from local providers). There's also a mooing contest for humans to benefit local 4-H groups. Come for the dairy, stay to pet cows: They'll be holding court in three petting areas called the "Cow Zone."

FATSOMETER: 6. All that loud mooing should help burn off the caloric intake of fatty dairy products nicely.
