Party like it's 1499
Little things can unexpectedly spark a warm glow of Christmas spirit in your heart: twinkling lights on a pine bough, a child’s eyes wide with wonder, or a disembodied boar’s head and a pudding set on fire. Yes, it’s time for Wisconsin Union’s annual Tudor Holiday Dinner Concert. This amusingly arcane event takes old-fashioned British traditions such as strolling minstrels, a wassail bowl (filled with spiced wine), and the presentation of the aforementioned boar’s head on a platter and spices them up with such modern touches as Craisins and a cash bar. Admission, which costs $37.50 for Wisconsin Union members and $40 for non-members, includes hors d’oeuvres, a full dinner with a choice of beef tenderloin or vegetarian curried paella, a romaine salad with pecans and Craisins, hash browns, and Italian-style vegetables. A flaming figgy pudding with hard sauce (read: strong alcohol) caps off the meal. The Philharmonic Chorus Of Madison will perform as you chow down, and diners can join them in singing some carols during the finale. The event kicks off in Great Hall at 5:45 p.m. each night from Dec. 3 through Dec. 7, then again Dec. 9 and Dec. 10. Tickets are available by calling (608) 262-2201 and by visiting their website. Godspeed, Badgers.
Fatsometer: 4. Unless you go for seconds on the figgy pudding, that is.
