The tag line is: “The Taste is Local!” These days food purveyors can do the locally sourced thing and stand upright with a beaming smile, unafraid of any eager vegan, or they can slouch along with trucked-in ingredients and suffer the baleful eye of Madison’s elite corps of food police. This market-propelling phenomenon is one reason we’re looking at the third annual Burgers And Brew event at the Capital Brewery in Middleton, taking place June 4 at 4 p.m., which will showcase the transformation of humble hamburgers into wild creatures of meat bearing the exotic affects of locally grown ingredients. Chefs from Brasserie V, L’Etoile, Lombardino’s, and others will serve up their special takes on mini-burgers, ready to impress. And the whole shebang is housed in a brewery, so the suds will run over. Tickets are 25 bones, and a ticket gets you three small burgers with three short pours of Capital microbrews. It’s the annual REAP (Research, Education, Action and Policy on Food Group) fundraiser. That group is committed to improving school lunches and all kinds of other good causes, so diners can wrap their overindulgence in a cloak of generosity and good will toward all the peoples of the world.
