Proving solidarity in the face of previous adversity toward the local scene, hundreds of artists, promoters, managers and fans swarmed the Barrymore Theatre last Friday night to celebrate the first annual Madison Hip-Hop Awards show.

With awards presented in more than a dozen categories over the span of the night, the show also included standout performances by Dumate, Star Persons, First Wave, and Krucial Impak. Those who attended cheered on winners for Best Album, Best Group, Best Artist, Best Promoter and many other categories throughout the event, all while raising a considerable amount of money for the local Toys For Tots program.

Of note, two artists walked away with more than a few awards apiece, while the rest of the awards were spread throughout the community of artists and others. DJ Pain 1 cleaned up, winning six awards, including DJ Of The Year, Most Influential, Producer Of The Year and Song Of The Year (featured). Similarly, Cory “O. Dot” Park took home five awards: Album Of The Year, Hip-Hop Artist Of The Year, Hip-Hop Duo Of The Year (with Siggie Sedge as 9 Delegates), and Collaboration Of The Year (with Jesse Lester).
