Flaky, butter-laden crusts are a given at REAP Food Group's fifth annual Pie Palooza fundraiser, Nov. 8 at the Goodman Community Center, but the fillings—both savory and sweet—might veer away from predictable comforts. Cranberry apple, pumpkin pecan, and sweet-potato pies are always nice, but how about a bite or two from a poached-pear, Peruvian-eggfruit, or Napoli cheese prosciutto pie? All of these will be made from locally-sourced ingredients and donated by 20 local businesses including L'Etoile (25 N. Pinckney, 608-251-0500) and Lombardino's (2500 University Ave., 608-238-1922). And if that’s not enough pie, whole apple or pumpkin pies will now be available to take home (contact REAP for info). Tickets are $16 in advance and $18 at the door. Like all inventive and interesting food events in Madison, it's likely to sell out, so don’t sleep on these sweet treats.

Fatsometer: 6. A ticket guarantees attendees two slices of their choosing, a fresh salad, and a beverage. Depending on the choices, this could actually be somewhat healthy, or it could leave you with a pleasantly distended stomach filled with the warring combo of apple crisp cheesecake and spaghetti pancetta pie.
