Press Yourself: American Players Theatre longs for summer, Richard III-style

American Players Theatre Three more months, baby.

The whole point of flyers, posters, merch items, and publicity photos is to attract attention to yourself and/or your event. We at The A.V. Club go through dozens of these things a week, and it's true that some are better than others. In Press Yourself, we reward clever, gimmicky, and/or offensive promotional tactics by highlighting them.

The A.V. Club has never been shy about its crush on American Players Theatre, and with just cause: It always makes seeing Shakespeare so damn much fun. Well, it would appear that the soul-crushing malaise of winter is now immaterial for the folks in Spring Green. Check out what they cooked up for their pre-season promo video. Longtime APT vet James DeVita reciting lines and tromping around in the snow while playing Richard III is fun on its own. But what's particularly cool is the punchline when the brutish Richard gets put in his place by DeVita's actual daughter (and fellow APT actor), Sophia. Needless to say, it's meta and a little weird, but also 100 percent funny and great.

Unfortunately we'll all have to wait until June 5 for the real stuff, when APT’s season kicks off with As You Like It. Things like this always help, though.
