Madison Enterprise Center (100 S. Baldwin St., 608-221-0588) helps small businesses get off the ground, and on Tuesday, Feb. 9 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. locals can reap the literal fruits of three go-getters’ labors. "We're offering hand-crafted vegan organic chocolate samples for free, and boxes for sale, so you can build your own specialty box," says Josie Pradella, who represents TerraSource Gourmet Chocolates. Nancy Potter of Potter's Crackers will also be on hand to tempt folks with her high-quality organic whole wheat crackers, as well as Matt and Clare Stoner Fehsenfeld of Quince & Apple with small-batch jams and jellies including fig and black tea preserves, and orange marmalade with lemons. Chocolate, crackers, and preserves all make excellent Valentine's Day gifts, so after taste-testing the free samples, take the chance to purchase some nibbles for any heart-shaped boxes you may be putting together.
Fatsometer: 7. Eat these treats, buy more treats, eat again, then prance around with your newly distended belly—all guiltlessly, of course, because supporting local businesses just feels right.
