Bored of aimless browsing at Madison's popular farmers markets? In Stand By Your Stand, Decider heads out to find their best and strangest offerings, and tips on how to use them.
The source: Madison, Wisconsin.
Wares: Fresh pasta made in a wide range of flavors and shapes. They include: garlic angel hair, lemon dill linguini, toasted sesame fettuccine, egg-free spinach linguini, garlic herb lasagna, and porcini mushroom tortellini.
Best deal: Three packs of fresh pasta for $9.
Weirdest item: Squid ink linguini is "enhanced" with the salty ink of an ocean squid that colors everything it touches a murky black hue. So how does it taste? Thankfully, it's more of a visual than a flavor.
Serving suggestion: With so many flavors built right into the pasta, owner Peter Robertson says you don’t need too many ingredients on hand to make a good meal. Try the garlic angel hair tossed with olive oil, salt, pepper, and a sprinkling of cheese.
Find it at: Dane County Farmers' Market, Saturdays, 6 a.m.-2 p.m., Capitol Square, through Nov. 7.
