Just Announced The 2011 Madison Area Music Awards at the Capitol Theater

More Just Announced

This year’s Wisconsin Area Music Industry awards has come and gone with little recognition for the vital, vibrant music of the Madison area. Chalk some of that up to the WAMI’s relatively hefty membership fees, but attribute most of it to the good work of the Madison Area Music Awards and its much more affordable $5 entry fee. The charitable organization is getting ready to celebrate its eighth year of getting instruments to kids and promoting music education with the annual MAMAs award show on June 4 at the Capitol Theater.

The MAMAs have rounded up another typically eclectic lineup for the show, featuring The Rowdy Prairie Dogs, Star Persons, Gerri DiMaggio, Sexy Ester And The Pretty Mama Sisters, Lords Of The Trident, Anthony Lamarr, and the Pro Arte Quartet—who’ll be accepting a lifetime achievement award this year. In addition, there’ll be a MAMAs All-Star Guitar Showcase featuring John Masino, Aaron Williams, and Joel Pingatore, as well as youth performances by Kati May, Midnight Voices, and Ariela Bohrod.

So chuck in your $5 to join in the final round of voting (happening now), and drop some bills on a ticket for the show when they go on sale May 1 online and at the Overture Center box office. Whether it’s WAMIs or MAMAs, those pats on the back are going to charity.
