The Hussy brings crudeness to Local Band Wednesdays

hussy

A minute and a half seems like just the right length for a song by Madison duo The Hussy. They're not interested in much beyond a couple of basic guitar figures from Bobby Wegner, a few rollicking drum fills from Heather Sawyer, and a few shout-back-and-forth verses. Simple as hell, yes, but these two are at least honest about what they like and what they have to offer. So far, they haven't even tried to stretch their songwriting formula into a full-length album, instead releasing a series of vinyl 7-inch EPs—quick tunes in a quick format. One of them, Winter Daze, gathers just six garage-bashers together, getting to the point with some catchy elements (Sawyer's vocal hook on "One Word") and plenty of crude ones (Wegner's pitchy bark-sing delivery and distorted power chords). When The Hussy plays this week's installment of Local Band Wednesdays with National Beekeepers Society, songs like "Head Set" will take just enough time to get heads people along, but not enough to let anyone over-think it, especially not the band.
