The 8th Annual Madison Food & Wine Show (running Oct. 23-25) promises to be another three-day orgy loaded with attendees slurping booze, eating cheese, and rhapsodizing over cooking techniques, though it’s possible this year’s event will also give attention to the now-deafening plea to reduce our food’s carbon footprint. Mostly, it remains a perfect opportunity for ordinary slobs and wannabe foodies to hobnob with restaurateurs, industry suits, and media types while sampling more than 100 wines and beers, and heaping plates of food from around Wisconsin. Demonstration highlights include The Dueling Chef competition at 2 p.m. Sunday, a shindig that’ll be emceed by one of Madison’s best chefs, Patrick O'Halloran of Lombardino's (2500 University Ave., 608-238-1922). Weekend passes are $70 ($60 in advance), so start fasting early.
Fatsometer: 10. If history is any guide, show-goers will be doing little more than waddling around eating and drinking for 72 straight hours, and there are no treadmills in sight.
