On Feb. 19 (11 to 2 p.m.) cigars will be smoked, Jamaican food from David’s will be inhaled, and hilarious stories of the workplace will be shared at the Tasting Room Of Monona (6000 Monona Dr. Ste. 103, Monona, 608-223-1641) where the HRCigar Network is holding a “cigar lunch.” The stogie-oriented human relations meeting was inaugurated in 2006 by three HR execs (Bob Garcia, Greg Shaw, and Jim Ziganto) who sought the solace and peace of smoking cigars over lunch to discuss their miserable and sometimes bizarre tales of life in one of Western world’s strangest situations: professional human relations. Screened entry into these discussions in this kicked-back setting seemed to work, and the founders now oversee a diverse group of more than 100 members. Payment in advance of $35 is required to hobnob with the executives, though, and would-be attendees will also need to prove their status as living, breathing HR execs.
FATSOMETER: 4. This isn’t so much about fattening the belly as it is about fattening the LinkedIn contacts list, but it isn’t a trip to the gym, either.
