Weekend Agenda: Dec. 12-14
Sean Owen
If The Hussy don't actually look like this, you're probably three to five cheap beers behind.
The best of this weekend:
FRIDAY
1. Mourn the demise of Firecracker Studios with an art-and-music show at Inferno.
2. See how well local garage-popster Matt Joyce transitions into a solo set at Mother Fool's.
3. Celebrate a good year of El Valiente's instrumental-rock shows with one more, at The Frequency.
4. Get there early to find out what The Gomers' bizzarely promoted Slappy Hour Variety Special is all about.

SATURDAY
1. Choose from among three happily lowbrow rock bills: The Hussy at Café Montmartre, Hanson Brothers at the High Noon, and Droids Attack, playing its annual Destroy All Christmas show at the Frequency. That show also boasts the evocatively named 3 Piston Asshammer, as well as Dick The Bruiser, who put out one of 2008's best local records.
2. Savor the well-executed pop covers of The Low Czars at Mickey's.
3. Get "end-timey" with Hellblinki Sextet and The Scarring Party at The Annex.
4. Boogie away some of that infernal winter sadness with New Orleans' piano-pounder Marcia Ball at the Majestic.

1. Get your bumping and brow-furrowing on with Chicago MC Qwel at the High Noon.
2. Prefer to hibernate? Give our 2008 Madison music mixtape a listen and let us know what you think.
