Weekend Agenda: July 31-Aug. 2
If these guys don't look like a good time, we don't know who does.
The best of this weekend:
FRIDAY
The annual Sugar Maple Traditional Music Festival comes back to Lake Farm County Park with an opening night that includes Native American folksinger Bill Miller and an "old-time dance," among other things. We don't doubt that a few members of Minneapolis' Doomtree crew can supply an invigorating night of hip-hop at the High Noon Saloon (see a video for the crew's song "Game Over" below). Speaking of the High Noon, songstress Pieta Brown's scheduled Friday show there has been postponed to Sept. 11. For all we know, we might dork out over some vintage Batman episodes at Cinematheque, then head over to the Wisco for some creepy metal from Buried Future and Angelic Viscera. Then again, over at Revolution Cycles on Atwood Ave., the headdress-tastic Shane Shane will be playing a t-shirt release show, of all things.
SATURDAY
We're still getting used to calling Jentri Colello and her band by their newly chosen name of Flatbear, but all the same, they've got a good new CD to celebrate with a show at The Frequency. The Sugar Maple Fest will continue on all day with J.D. Crowe, Robbie Fulks, Joel Paterson, Shotgun Party, and more on the bill, while New Mountain Kickers and some other local bands play an autism benefit at The Annex.
SUNDAY
Speaking of benefits, the High Noon hosts one for the Respite Center tonight, with a big bill of local bands including The Bilderberg Group, Czarbles, and Rory Kane.
