Weekend Agenda: Sept. 4-6
Asher Roth's memories of Taste Of Madison get blurry after the Steak Escape booth.
The best of this weekend:
FRIDAY
It's not really the end of summer until we get our Snake On The Lake fest, which returns to the Terrace Friday with such highlights as a DJ set from RJD2 and another visit from Milwaukee band Maritime. That's not the only variety bill in town, as several American Idol contestants will bloviate and show off their dramatic-holding-note-for-16-counts skills at the Alliant Energy Center. Charming in a much more down-to-earth way, Pigeon John comes back to town as part of the duo Rootbeer at the High Noon Saloon. Cinematheque will be kicking off its fall season tonight with a screening of the 1943 musical Meet Me In St. Louis, as the homegrown musical comedy In The Beginning opens up at the Bartell Theatre.
SATURDAY
Look, we hardly ever get to enjoy such a thing as a "fake wedding" between two musically compatible folk who aren't an actual couple, so we may not be able to resist when country duo The Kentucky Waterfalls offers that during their CD-release show at the High Noon. Then again there's also the schlocky appeal of Taste Of Madison's first day. Candlebox is playing Taste Saturday night, and it may take a harsh mashup-beatdown from LA Riots at the Majestic Theatre to pound that out of your head. Finally, if you plan to brave the first of this year's Badgers football Saturdays down at Camp Randall, our guide to the experience will help you remember your "eat shit"s and "fuck you"s.
SUNDAY
Taste Of Madison gets even more over-the-top Sunday with a headlining set from rapper Asher Roth. Make it up to yourself with the musically diverse American Cancer Society benefit at the High Noon, or the cozy weirdness of Julian Lynch, who's playing at Indie Coffee.
