Bassnectar and Nosaj Thing at Majestic Theatre
True to his DJ name, San Francisco producer Lorin Ashton makes a point of generously gobbing on the lower frequencies to make dub and trip-hop congeal in engagingly dense, grimy mixes. In fact, Bassnectar's new album, Cozza Frenzy, even includes a "mega-bass remix" of its own title track. It's aimed at getting a music-festival-like stew of people dancing and/or zoning out—and Bassnectar's live shows usually involve a trippy light show and video projections, at the very least—but it's also dynamic and varied enough to hold some of the folks who'd rather sit at home with headphones on than go to Burning Man.
