Bible Of The Devil, Slough Feg, and Droids Attack at The Frequency
You'd naturally expect a metal band, especially one called Bible Of The Devil, to churn out some blustery riffs and pompous lyrics. But the Chicago group tempers its Iron Maiden-style chord-chugs and two-guitar harmonies with choruses and hooks that welcome a bit of roots-rock and hair-metal lightheartedness. Sure, it's not the most original thing in metal, but the band keeps up the momentum on this year's Freedom Metal. Co-headliners Slough Feg play Celtic-tinged folk-metal that harkens back to galloping ’80s horsemen like (again) Iron Maiden. For anyone burnt out on the sludgy, dropped-D doomcore or prissy Hot Topic screamo that passes for “metal” these days, the San Francisco band offers a return to the Golden Age of codpieces, Norse mythology, and swords and sorcerers.
